Theme for Met Gala 2025 – What’s Special?

This year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” paid tribute to the history, elegance, and rebellion of Black dandyism, a celebration of identity, fashion, and culture.

The organizers sought inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book “Slaves to Fashion” when planning a display to demonstrate how Black communities used fashion as a way to communicate empowerment through style.

The dress code? “Tailored for You.” The attendees were motivated to produce outstanding results by tailoring to individualized creativity.

The Costume Institute exhibit explores the deep connection between fashion and Black identity development through the Atlantic diaspora.
