Addinath M. Kothare Plans His Next Film After ‘Paani’s’ Success

Hot off the heels of his critically acclaimed film Paani, which recently swept the Filmfare Marathi Awards with 10 major honours, actor-director Addinath M. Kothare is already setting his sights on new creative challenges. The Actor-filmmaker is currently wrapping up development on his next directorial venture, tentatively titled Jai Malhaar.

Paani was lauded by critics for its raw honesty and cinematic restraint. Although the film’s impressive awards run underscored its appeal to both audiences and the industry, Kothare stated that the story aimed to illuminate a pressing crisis, not seek accolades.

“Paani is deeply personal to me, it’s about communities that are struggling every day with something most of us take for granted. I’m grateful to my producers for backing this story and to the audiences who gave it such a powerful embrace. I am equally excited about my next, which I am just finishing the final touches to the script.” Kothare said.

Known for seamlessly balancing his dual careers in front of and behind the camera, Kothare has become one of Marathi cinema’s most versatile voices. His next production which he also essays the lead, Bena, is expected to depart significantly from the social realism of Paani, though he remains tight-lipped about its narrative details.

Kothare works on more than just Marathi films. He recently finished shooting a yet-to-be-announced Hindi feature film, and he will also star in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming epic Ramayana, thus adding a major national project to his growing repertoire. Meanwhile, Marathi audiences can look forward to him returning to one of his most popular roles, with Zapatlela 3 scheduled to go on floors later this year.

As Marathi cinema continues to stake its claim with stories that matter and aesthetics that rival the best in the country, Kothare stands out as an actor-filmmaker determined to keep pushing the envelope.
